As your Forum President, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to one of the most vibrant, historical and exciting cities in the Netherlands, the City of Maastricht, which will be hosting the 57th Europa Forum of European Lions from October 13 to 15, 2011. The general theme selected for this Forum is “Building Bridges”: a theme that will offer all those attending the Forum the opportunity to meet and work together with many Lions from all European countries, to listen to various opinions and discuss different viewpoints regarding the Future of Lionism; not only in Europe but, worldwide.
The Forum constitutes a special experience for Lions and Leos from North, South, West and Eastern-Europe to come together. Membership development, Leadership and Service Activities will be the main issues to be discussed in both workshops and seminars. The European Music Competition and the Young Ambassador Competition are the highlights of this Forum. Young leaders are important for the future of our association.
Interactive meetings with the International President, Executive Officers and International Directors from Europe are a source of inspiration for the support we as Lions are committed to give to people around the world who are in need of our help. The city of Maastricht will welcome you with its famous hospitality. It is a magical town situated at the border between Belgium and Germany with a history, dating back to Romains times; a city of monuments but also a city famous for its excellent food and wines.
The Organizing committee and myself are very much looking forward to welcoming you in large numbers, as Lions, Leos, Spouses and Guests in friendship and peace. Together we will set goals to enable more Lions in Europe to develop new and inspiring ideas to increase membership within our own clubs. Thus ensuring that in the future more Lions friends in Europe and in the world will build bridges together.
